This official bespoke course aims to start you on your Makaton journey and gives you a brief introduction to Makaton. You will learn approximately 40 signs and symbols. It can be tailored to your setting for example I have done them for early years, climbing instructors, advocates, primary schools, brownies, etc.

This is for anyone and no experience is necessary, you will cover Stages 1 and 2 and part A of the additional vocabulary. You will learn some background information and simple theory in 6 hour workshop. This can be 1 day or 2 shorter sessions and you will receive a manual that contains course materials, all the signs and symbols you have learned and a certificate (approximately 125 concepts).

This is for people who have completed level 1, you will cover Stages 3 and 4 and part B of the additional vocabulary. You will learn some more theory and consider how it may be implemented in your setting in a 6 hour workshop. This can be 1 day or 2 shorter sessions and you will receive a manual that contains course materials, all the signs and symbols you have learned and a certificate (approximately 125 concepts).

This is for people who have completed levels 1 and 2, you will cover Stages 5 and 6 and start to develop your translation and interpretation skills. You will also work on longer pieces of information and conversations and analyse signs in more depth. This level takes around 7 hours and can be delivered over 1 day or 2 shorter sessions and you will receive a manual that contains course materials, all the signs and symbols you have learned and a certificate (approximately 100 concepts).

This is for people who have completed level 1, 2 and 3, you will cover Stages 7 and 8. You will continue to develop your translation and interpretation skills and adapting your communication. It takes around 7 hours and can be delivered over 1 day or 2 shorter sessions). You will receive a manual that contains course materials, all the signs and symbols you have learned and a certificate.

This workshop will revise signs and symbols for people who have covered the information previously but require practice. These are practical and interactive refreshers not a substitute for official training.

This information is handled discreetly, sensitively and to minimise risk. Joy Grimsby will not pass your information on to 3rd parties, will not send ‘spam’ or communications not directly relevant to you. We may keep your email address if either you indicate on the booking form that this is ok or ask directly to be kept up to date.
Photography
Joy Grimsby Makaton Tutor takes photos on courses for social media, our website and course promotion. Some photos may be saved electronically, away from personal information or appear in the public domain. They are not used for any other purpose and handled carefully. This is a great way for people to see others learning and enjoying the courses.
Refunds
We understand on rare occasions people may change their mind, get ill, things crop up. However, we do not generally issue refunds, as a small independent business it can significantly affect our income when things change at short notice. Courses may be full, resources ordered, venues booked and we may have turned down other paying participants and may not be able to resell the place at short notice. Offering free places on future courses also reduces potential income. Group bookings are generally not refunded as preferred dates can book up quickly. If you are concerned, discuss terms and conditions at the time of booking. We will generally try to work with you in a responsible and ethical way but we may not be able to find a solution at really short notice.
