I am a highly qualified Specialist Makaton Tutor with over 35 years of experience, offering the full range of official Makaton courses both online and face to face. As a licensed tutor delivering workshops on behalf of the Makaton Charity, I provide training that is relaxed, engaging, and enjoyable while maintaining the highest professional standards.
My background includes extensive work within Speech and Language Bases, mainstream schools, SEN schools, specialist nurseries, alternative provision, and residential settings. I support children and adults with a wide range of communication needs, including complex needs, speech and language delay, Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, Worster-Drought Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and processing difficulties. Makaton is a unique multimodal language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall, organisation of language and expression and social interaction.
Makaton is extremely flexible as it can be personalised to an individual's needs and used at a level suitable for them. Today over 100,000 children and adults, use Makaton symbols and signs. Most people start using Makaton as children then naturally stop using the signs and symbols as they no longer need them. However, some people will need to use Makaton for their whole lives.
